Shannon McFadzean, daughter of James and Donna McFadzean of Los Altos, has been offered a full scholarship to Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas, where she has a verbal commitment to play volleyball.

She is a student at St. Francis High School.

Emily Borromeo, daughter of Ted and Angie Borromeo of Los Altos, has been named one of three finalists for the Beach Blanket Babylon $10,000 vocal scholarship. The winner will be selected June 6 at a performance at Club Fugazy in San Francisco.

Borromeo graduated from St. Simon School, is a senior at Sacred Heart Preparatory in Atherton and will enroll at Brown University in the fall. She has appeared in many Peninsula Youth Theatre productions.

Benjamin Jacobs, the son of Catherine and Chris Jacobs of Los Altos, has been accepted to Emery-Riddle Aeronautical University, Daytona, Fla.

Jacobs is pursuing a degree in aeronautical science. He is a graduate of Bellarmine College Preparatory School.

We’ve recently covered the passing of two of this community’s most involved and committed volunteers, Lee Lynch and Billy Russell. They represented an era when people helped out, not so they could get their name on a building, but because it was simply the right thing to do.

There’s a new generation of volunteers hard at work right now in this community who are carrying on their legacy. The level of involvement in the recent Los Altos Relay For Life event bears this out.
