Bobcat damagesTorwood home

A bobcat apparently tried to scratch through the roof of a vacant home on Torwood Court in Los Altos last Saturday, Los Altos police said.

Police called the cat’s actions extremely unusual but said, based on the evidence, it was pretty clear that a small cat did the damage.

The home backs up to a creek.

Bus rideleads to brawl

A man and woman riding a VTA bus on El Camino Real Saturday allegedly began fist fighting as the public vehicle approached San Antonio Road in Los Altos.

The man allegedly struck the woman.

Los Altos police said apparently he had been involved in an earlier fight that required him to go to Stanford Hospital for head injuries.

Woman steals jewelryfrom downtown shop

A woman wearing sunglasses and a dark coat allegedly distracted a clerk at Crimson Mim Saturday afternoon long enough to steal two pieces of jewelry from a store case.

Police said the woman was between 40 and 50 years old, had dark hair and weighed about 150 pounds.

Anyone with information should call the Los Altos Police at 947-2770.

We’ve recently covered the passing of two of this community’s most involved and committed volunteers, Lee Lynch and Billy Russell. They represented an era when people helped out, not so they could get their name on a building, but because it was simply the right thing to do.

There’s a new generation of volunteers hard at work right now in this community who are carrying on their legacy. The level of involvement in the recent Los Altos Relay For Life event bears this out.
