Katherine Wells of Mountain View and Jekyns Pelaez play the lead roles in Western Ballet’s “Sleeping Beauty” this weekend.

Performances are scheduled 2 and 8 p.m., Saturday, and 2 p.m., Sunday, at the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts, 500 Castro St.

The classic fairly tale about awakened love is set to Tchaikovsky’s famous score.

Guest artist Ramon Moreno (from Ballet San José Silicon Valley) will dance the role of the Male Bluebird. The cast also features Western Ballet’s Megan Kurashige, Tatiana A’Virmond, Gonzalo Espinoza, Joseph Copley, Travis Walker, Michael Separovich and Carlos Venturo. Alison Share of Los Altos performs as well.

Choreography is by Alessandra di Pierro and sets are by Peter Crompton.

Tickets are $20 general admission, $15 seniors, students and children (12 and under).

When members of the Los Altos Village Association first created the summer movie nights, they anticipated an event that would attract more residents downtown as a way to promote business.

What they didn’t anticipate was an influx of middle schoolers, or that parents would use the weekly Friday night affair as an opportunity to drop off their children and have someone else (in this case, the Village Association) effectively watch over them.
