FERN WINONA ANDREWS
Fern Winona Andrews passed away on April 28, 2005. She was born in Chicago in 1914. In 1934, Fern moved to Southern California with her husband Lester and in 1957 they moved to Los Altos where they resided for 45 yrs. She was an active member of the Horseless Carriage Club of American Women’s Auxiliary, sang with Sweet Adelines, also served as president, bowled with Alley Gators bowling league and belonged to the Chattering Chicks Canasta Club. She was an extra- ordinarily creative seamstress and homemaker. Fern was married to her beloved Lester for 71 years before his passing in 2004. She is survived by her daughters Joan Stubbles, Marilyn Baskin, son Al and 32 grandchildren, great grandchildren and 1 great, great grandson. We will miss her always and remember the beauty of her spirit.
Memorial service will be at Presbyterian Church of Sunnyvale on May 11 at 2 p.m.
NORA BORDERS
Nora Borders passed away April 27, 2005 in Mountain View, Ca. She was born (August 1916) and raised in Vandalia, Illinois. She attended the University of Illinois where she met her husband LaMar Borders. They were married September 2, 1940.
They moved to Hemet, California in 1950 where they lived for 46 years and raised their family. She worked for the Hemet School District until she retired in 1978.
Her husband LaMar and her son LaMar Jr. predeceased her. Survivors include: her daughter and son-in-law, Phylita and Bruce Skov of Los Altos, daughter-in-law Jackie Borders, granddaughter Tina Bruton, granddaughter and grandson-in-law Janice and James Wilson, grandson Richard Borders, great grandchildren Joshua and Whitney Bruton of Visalia, sister Glira Bunnell and niece Barbara Bowen of Casper Wyoming.
Funeral services were held on April 30th. Graveside services were held at San Jacinto Valley District Cemetery on May 3. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of choice.
GERTRUDE MARGARET (GUNNISON) KING
Gertrude King, “Mom King” to many, was born June 12, 1914 in Fort Collins, Colorado, to Ralph and Stella Gunnison. She accepted the Lord as her savior at a tent meeting in Cheyenne in the 1920’s. She passed away on April 29, 2005. She was predeceased by two brothers, Ernest and Richard Gunnison and one sister, Dorothy Adams and also by her son, Chester King. She is survived by two daughters, Bonny Collins (husband John) of Palo Alto and Nancy Smith (husband Dick) of Mountain View, two grandchildren, Dale (wife Kim) of Willits, CA and Mary Hansen (husband John) of Palo Alto and four great-grandchildren, Kimberly, Chris, Eli and Justin. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews and was loved by so many friends.
She lived much of her early life in Wyoming and spent most summers growing up on the family ranch in Tie Siding. She moved to California in 1948 with her three children, when United Airlines transferred its maintenance base from Cheyenne, WY to San Francisco, CA. Over the years, her home was a gathering place for many of her children’s friends even after they grew into adulthood. She retired from United Airlines as a mechanic in 1979, after 33 years of service. She lived in Mountain View for more than 47 years. Gertrude enjoyed bowling, boat racing and working in her yard.
The family would like to thank the staff at Los Altos Sub-Acute and Rehab Center for the last three years of wonderful care. Private inurnment will be held for the family at Alta Mesa Cemetery in Palo Alto. A memorial service was held at Spangler Mortuary in Los Altos on May 6. Donations may be given to the charity of your choice.
