GRACE WINIFRED STOECKER
Grace Winifred Stoecker known to her friends as Winnie. Grace was born on May 29, 1918 in Randolph, Vermont. She passed away peacefully April 22, 2005 in her home of nearly 50 years in Los Altos Hills. Winnie was predeceased by her husband Howard and son Gary. She is survived by her son Robert and his wife Marvis of Portola Valley, three grandsons, Douglas (and his wife Robin) of Portola Valley, James of Los Altos Hills, and Matthew of Santa Barbara who were able to spend many loving hours with Winnie. She was a woman of remarkable strength and will continue to be admired by all who loved her.
Winnie’s childhood was spent in Corvallis, Oregon where she recalled fondly her days selling strawberries at a road-side stand with her two brothers Warren and Howard. She enjoyed riding her horse, a retired circus pony that, to Winnie’s surprise would bow and perform other tricks.
Winnie married Howard “Steck” Stoecker in 1940 after they met at the University of Southern California. Howard flew for PAA until 1977 enabling them to travel extensively during the “hey-day” of early commercial aviation. Winnie and Steck especially enjoyed golfing with their many friends at the Los Altos Golf and Country Club where she became an excellent golfer. Winnie also volunteered for many years at El Camino Hospital.
Her family would like to thank the many friends who visited Winnie during her last year and especially to thank Mele and Lolo for their constant, devoted and loving care. A private family gathering will be held. Please make any donations in her memory to your favorite charity.
