Farmers market opens Thursday

The Los Altos Farmers Market is set to open for its sixth season 4-8 p.m., Thursday, on State Street between First and Fourth streets in downtown Los

Altos. Every Thursday through September, California certified farmers will offer fresh produce, dried fruit and nuts, baked

goods, flowers, eggs and fresh fish.

This season shoppers can expect an even greater variety of goods than in past seasons. Market operator, Urban Village, has expanded the market to include many new farmers and food vendors offering a variety of items, including hot prepared meals and snacks.

In addition to the produce and culinary items, local artisans will display handmade arts and crafts.

Musicians as well as other entertainers are scheduled to perform each week.

This week’s opening will feature face painting, balloon twisting and other activities. Performer Trey Cromwell is scheduled to awe audiences with his fire eating and juggling.

The Los Altos Village Association sponsors the farmers market.

Country club chef joins Hyatt

Local chef Gary Roth will serve as the executive chef at the Classic Residence by Hyatt in Palo Alto when it opens this summer. The Hyatt is one of the most prestigious luxury senior living communities in the country.

Roth, known locally for his culinary dishes as chef at the Los Altos Golf & Country Club, has more than 20 years experience in the food industry as a chef and wine buyer for country clubs, deluxe hotels and fine restaurants.

He will oversee all aspects of food service at the 22-acre Classic Residence, including operations of the gourmet restaurants, club-style dining room and bistro-style cafe.
