Elvis and the rest of rock ‘n’ roll are the subject of a CSMA lecture. |
“Is Elvis Really the King?” That’s the question posed in the latest installment of the Community School of Music and Arts’ Classes w/o Quizzes Arts Lecture Series, set for 7:30 p.m., May 6, at the Mountain View arts center.
“Is Elvis Really the King?” features Foothill College music professor Robert Hartwell, author, pianist, historian and educator, tracing the emergence of rock in the 1950s, discussing some of its most colorful figures, including Elvis, Little Richard, Jerry Lee Lewis and other icons of American music.
More than just a musical style, rock ‘n’ roll is a social phenomenon, influencing clothes, language, lifestyles, politics and more. Rock ‘n’ roll is also a uniquely American genre, critics say, the product of our multicultural heritage commingled with 1950s sociology.
The May 6 presentation is part of CSMA’s arts lecture series presenting outstanding regional educators sharing their expertise and passion in lively lectures. CSMA at Finn Center is located at 230 San Antonio Circle in Mountain View. Limited, open seating is available. General admission tickets are $10; student/senior tickets are $8, with ID.
