Hidden Villa in Los Altos Hills has scheduled a Mother’s Day concert featuring the renowned Banana Slug String Band, 5-7:30 p.m., May 8, on the outdoor stage at the Visitors Welcome Center.
Billed as the “Best Ecological Musicians on the Planet,” the Banana Slugs blend music, theater, puppetry and audience participation in their performances. Based in Santa Cruz, members include Steve Van Zandt, Mark Nolan, Larry Graff and Doug Greenfield.
People of all ages can enjoy their toe tappin’, foot stompin’ favorites such as, “Dirt Made My Lunch,” a signature hit from their second album. With voices, guitars, mandolin, banjo, harmonica, bass and percussion, the Banana Slugs have been creating their own mix of ballads, boogie-woogie, folk, reggae and rap for 20 years.
Concert-goers are encouraged to bring a picnic dinner, as well as a blanket or lawn chair. Organic picnic dinners prepared by JZ Cool Catering, in environmentally friendly packaging, can be pre-ordered through May 2. The dinners, which include a sandwich, side, dessert and bottled water, cost $15 for an adult box and $10 for a child’s. Log on to www.hiddenvilla.org for menu options.
Concert tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for students and seniors, and $7.50 for children 12 or under. Children 2 or under are free. Tickets will be sold at the door at 4:30 p.m., or call 949-8653 for advance reservations.
Hidden Villa is a non-profit 1,600-acre organic farm and wilderness preserve dedicated to inspiring a just and sustainable future through multicultural and environmental education programs for children, youth and the community.
Hidden Villa is located at 26870 Moody Road. It is open 8 a.m. to dusk, Tuesdays through Sundays. Parking, $5 per car, is waived for the Mother’s Day event.
