LDS plans big dance festival
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints will host a youth dance festival, “A Chosen Generation,” April 30 at Fremont High School in Sunnyvale. The festival will feature dances from 1840 to the present.
Seven hundred youth, ages 12 to 18, from Fremont, San Jose, Saratoga, Los Gatos, Santa Cruz, Santa Clara, Los Altos and Sunnyvale will perform on the football field at Fremont High. Specialty numbers will include professional fiddler Jim Shupe, Polynesian dance groups, a youth blues band and the swing team champions from Irvington High School.
Three years in the planning, the choreographers, creative directors, costuming and business experts from the church have combined their talents to produce the largest youth event since the late 1980s.
President Richard Hunter, prominent area church leader who has encouraged such large scale activities said, “It is wonderful for youth to discover a critical mass of like-minded friends who can join together in a fun and uplifting event.”
