Los Altos youth commissioners ham it up to plug their upcoming “Casino Night” event. Pictured from left in the back row are Colin DeMartini, Elieke Demmer; in the front row, Brandon Angelo, Todd Lorell, Sam Elchert and Greg Wright.

The Los Altos Youth Commission has scheduled a high school Casino Night 7-11 p.m., April 29, at the Los Altos Youth Center.

Students with a valid ID from any high school are encouraged to attend.

The event will feature a Texas Hold’em tournament, Blackjack, Wheel of Fortune and karaoke.

The $5 admission includes the equivalent of $250 in chips. Donating one or more cans of food for the homeless can earn an additional $250 in chips. Chips can be redeemed for raffle tickets for prizes such as gift certificates, video games and poker sets.

Students can earn community service credit as well as $100 in chips by volunteering to be a dealer.

For more information or to volunteer, call Teen Program Coordinator Molly James at the Los Altos Recreation Department, 947-2884.

In other news, the youth commission drew “excellent input” at a recent meeting to discuss the creation of a new skate park, according to recreation supervisor Donna Legge.

She expects more meetings to discuss the matter. Six new youth commissioners will be appointed next month to replace those graduating.

In Our Opinion

Editorial

We’ve recently covered the passing of two of this community’s most involved and committed volunteers, Lee Lynch and Billy Russell. They represented an era when people helped out, not so they could get their name on a building, but because it was simply the right thing to do.

There’s a new generation of volunteers hard at work right now in this community who are carrying on their legacy. The level of involvement in the recent Los Altos Relay For Life event bears this out.
