Los Altos High School will commemorate its 50th anniversary with a three-day celebration, May 20-22. Tickets for the event are available on alumni and school Web sites.

The weekend begins May 20 with a tribute to George Gershwin and a golf tournament. Prizes will be awarded at the 19th hole, where appetizers and no-host cocktails will be served. A family carnival and alumni swim meet are scheduled May 21. The main alumni event, set for the evening of May 21, is a street party in downtown Los Altos on Main Street, which will be closed for a night of food, drinks and music. Forty-five alumni classes have been invited. A concert on the LAHS green is slated for May 22.

In Our Opinion

Editorial

We’ve recently covered the passing of two of this community’s most involved and committed volunteers, Lee Lynch and Billy Russell. They represented an era when people helped out, not so they could get their name on a building, but because it was simply the right thing to do.

There’s a new generation of volunteers hard at work right now in this community who are carrying on their legacy. The level of involvement in the recent Los Altos Relay For Life event bears this out.
