Amy Cole and Derek Brown

Amy Cole and Derek Brown have announced their engagement to be married July 23 at the First Baptist Church in Los Altos.

The bride-to-be is the daughter of Brad and Christy Cole of Los Altos Hills.

She graduated from Gunn High School and from Biola University, summa cum laude, with a bachelor’s degree in liberal studies.

She is a first-grade teacher at Eisenhower Elementary School in the Cupertino Union School District.

The groom-to-be is the son of Jim and Helen Brown of Billings, Mont. He graduated from Billings Central Catholic High School and received a bachelor’s degree in biblical studies from Master’s College.

He is the director of middle school ministries at the First Baptist Church in Los Altos.

The couple will live in Sunnyvale.

Andrea Cano and Michael Jones

Andrea Cano and Michael Jones have announced their engagement to be married June 25 at St. Nicholas Church. A reception will follow at the Los Altos Golf & Country Club.

The bride-to-be is the daughter of Francis and Karen Cano of Los Altos. She graduated from Immaculate Heart Academy. She received a bachelor’s degree in elementary/special education from Providence College and a master’s degree in education administration from Santa Clara University. She is a teacher at Almond School.

The groom-to-be is the son of William and Margaret Jones of Waunakee, Wis. He graduated from Wurzburg American High School in Germany. He received a bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering from Colorado University and a master’s degree in mathematics and science education from Oregon State University. He is employed at Lockheed Martin. The couple will live in San Jose.

Editorial

We’ve recently covered the passing of two of this community’s most involved and committed volunteers, Lee Lynch and Billy Russell. They represented an era when people helped out, not so they could get their name on a building, but because it was simply the right thing to do.

There’s a new generation of volunteers hard at work right now in this community who are carrying on their legacy. The level of involvement in the recent Los Altos Relay For Life event bears this out.
