January 2004, the Winbigler structure, right, appears weathered after years of sitting unfinished and unprotected from the elements. Los Altos-based Custom Dreams began dismantling the structure in September 2004. Above, the structure’s size dwindles to almost nothing by early 2005. |
Until recently a few iron structural beams marked the former Winbigler property in Los Altos Hills. Now, nothing but the foundation exists. The site’s looming, unfinished house plagued neighborhood residents for two years.
The structure sat unfinished on the 7-acre property since 2002, when the city council upheld the planning commission’s decision to revoke a 35-foot height variance and deny a request for a site development permit after the former owners, Gordon Campbell and Maria Ligeti, razed the historic 1926 Winbigler house without city approval.
The property is now owned by Pinewood School, which has plans to relocate its middle and high schools there.
