Citizens 65 years or older who own and occupy a principal residence in the Fremont Union High School District can apply to the district for an exemption from the parcel tax approved Nov. 2. Beginning July 1, the new tax will assess each parcel $98 annually for the next six fiscal years.

To file for an exemption from the parcel tax for the 2005-2006 fiscal year:

1. Apply in person at the front desk reception area of the district’s Educational Services Center, 589 W. Fremont Ave., Sunnyvale, and bring proof of citizenship (driver’s license, passport, birth certificate or Medicare card), proof of residence (driver’s license, utility bill, property tax bill or Social Security card) and the assessor’s parcel number.

2. To apply by mail, send the preceding information and the exemption application form to the address on the form. The application form can be downloaded from the district’s Web site, www.fuhsd.org/parcel

EXEMPT.htm.

3. Return the exemption application form for 2005-2006 by May 31.
