Scouts from Troop 755 are cleaning up Covington School’s multi-

purpose room as their service project. The room was damaged in a fire last month that smoked the building and its contents.

Work is still going on to clean the multipurpose building. Troop 755 helped by dragging all the large tables out into the sun for much scrubbing, hosing and drying.

One Girl Scout commented, “This is the best service project we have ever done.”

Ross Coyle, a junior at Los Altos High School and member of Troop 37, Boy Scouts of America, will be honored on Feb. 12 at the Los Altos Youth Center for earning the Eagle rank, the highest rank in scouting.

To reach Eagle rank, Coyle met hundreds of requirements, from learning first-aid techniques to spending the night alone in the woods with only what he could wear.

For his Eagle project, Coyle spent more than 200 service hours designing a portable storage cart for the Los Altos High School Eagle Marching Band and supervising 15 scouts in its construction.

Coyle joined Boy Scouts, he said, “because it seemed like a fun thing to do, and I’ve always enjoyed learning new skills.”

In addition to learning outdoor skills and leadership, he learned the value of perseverence and helping others.

“I don’t follow the Boy Scout creed all the time. But I try to live up to every one of those qualities as much as I can.”
