ANNA MARIA (CELINE) SANDIE

Anna Maria (Celine) Sandie, passed away on February 19, 2005. A native of the Republic of Ireland (Eire), born in Sligo, “Yeats Country”, January 12, 1936 to Denis Healy (Cork) and his wife Elizabeth Higgins (Longford).

Celine studied nursing at Charing Cross Hospital Group Training School for Nurses, Harrow Hospital, London and midwifery at the National Maternity Hospital Holles Street, Dublin. She was registered to nurse in England, Wales and Eire. She came to work as a nurse in New Rochelle, NY in 1963. Celine studied Psychiatric Nursing in New York City and was qualified in the US.

She was married to William Sandie on July 4, 1964 and a son, William, was born in the Bronx NY, a son, Malachy, in Cabinteely, Eire, and a daughter, Helena, in Johannesburg, Republic of South Africa.

Celine was a resident of Los Altos for thirty years and a faithful parishioner of Saint Simon’s RC Church.

She is survived by her husband, William, son LT.William D. (Dept. of Corrections, Reno, NV) his wife, Donna and children Liam and Conner; son CDR Malachy D. (USN, Coronado, CA) his wife, Colleen and children, Nolan and Luke; and daughter Helena (Self employed, Sonoma, CA) and her husband Scott Stroud. She is also survived by brothers John Healy (Dublin, Eire), Thomas Healy (Nenah, Eire) sister Maura Quinn (Dublin, Eire) and ten nieces and nephews.

Celine was a kind and gentle soul loved by her family, in whom she took great pleasure, an avid gardener who raised fruit and vegetables as well as flowers. She enjoyed playing cards and loved gambling. Celine was also an enthusiastic and knowledgeable collector of antiques. Thanks be for the care provided to her in the last month of her life by the doctors and nurses of UCSF 8 Long who got it right. Bye-bye Granny. Funeral service was held on February 23 at Saint Simon’s RC Church, Los Altos followed by interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.

DALE MONTE WALTZ

Dale Monte Waltz 1914-2005, passed away at home in his sleep. He was born in Creston, Iowa. Two years later, his family moved to a ranch in Twin Falls, Idaho. He graduated from Menlo College, where he played football, sang and was the leader of a band, which played for the school dances at Menlo, Stanford and Mills College. He sang for orchestras in Los Angeles, Las Vegas and New York. He served in the Coast Guard in WW II from 1941-1945. After this, he was active in Waltz Real Estate firm in Los Altos. He loved golf and playing racquetball at the Elks Club.

We wanted to thank all the nurses, doctors and the staff at the VA Hospitals in San Francisco, Palo Alto and Menlo Park for their tender, loving care. We also would like to thank all the “ladies”, wonderful friends and staff at the Los Altos Golf and Country Club for their friendship and support.

Dale is survived by his wife Catherine. He lost his sister Catherine in 1955. He is survived by three children, Patsy Walkup, Dr. Bill Hagbom, Christine Bebb and their spouses. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He will be greatly missed. His love and life will live on in our hearts forever.

The family will meet for a private memorial. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to pathways Hospice, 201 San Antonio Circle, Suite 135, Mountain View, CA 94040-1252. Arrangements by Byrgan & Company of Los Gatos.

PERRY MACLEOD

Perry MacLeod of Sunnyvale, at rest February 15, 2005. Age 40. Husband of Lani MacLeod, father of Ryan. Son of Lucretia Davenport and Morton MacLeod. Brother of Jim, Cathy, Cindy, John and Adam. He will be remembered most for his optimistic attitude and his ability to keep a smile on his face throughout all his pain and discomfort. He truly loved life and set an example to all on what it means to be courageous. Perry will be greatly missed by his wife, son, parents, family, friends and animals. He was a graduate of University of Colorado.

Services were held February 24 at the Los Altos United Methodist Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made for Lymphoma Research in memory of Perry MacLeod: The City of Hope, 1500 E. Duarte Rd, Duarte, CA 91010.

BERNICE OSBORNE MACKAY

Bernice Osborne Mackay - Aug. 9, 1918 - Feb. 17, 2005 - Daughter of Charles Glenn and Nomo Fisher Osborne, born in Sacramento, CA. Bernice graduated from Folsom H.S., received her Bachelor’s, University of California, Berkeley and Master’s in Special Education, San Francisco State University. She loved to travel, was an avid baseball fan and volunteered her time with many local organizations. Bernice was preceded in death by husband John and son James. She is survived by son Bill and wife Diane, daughter Jean Schwartz and husband Dan, 3 grandchildren Marc Mackay and wife Katie, Mike Mackay, Julie Janowiak, husband Jeff and great grandson Coby. Funeral Mass will be held on Feb. 26 at 9:30am, St. Nicholas Church in Los Altos, followed by internment at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Sacramento. Arrangements by Spangler Mortuaries, Los Altos Chapel. Donations to favorite charity.
