Students teach about Persian New Year

Local teens and children will present a free educational program about NoRooz, the Persian New Year, 5 p.m., March 6, in the Covington Elementary School multipurpose room, 205 Covington Road, Los Altos. Haji Firooz and Amoo NoRooz will entertain. The public is invited, and admission is free.

Film festival in Eagle Theater

The Gay/Straight Alliance (GSA) at Los Altos High School will be hosting its second gay film festival noon to 9 p.m., March 5, in the Eagle Theater, 201 Almond Ave. The festival is open to the public. Suggested donations at the door will be $5 per movie or $15 for all four movies. Donations will go toward educating the public on gay youth issues and toward a scholarship for a senior member of the GSA.

St. Joseph schedules admissions testing

St. Joseph Catholic School in Mountain View will screen applicants for the 2005-06 academic year at 1-2:30 p.m., Thursday, Friday and March 2, and 10 a.m., Saturday. The school is located at 1120 Miramonte Ave.

Free tech seminars at De Anza College

Two free technology seminars have been scheduled by the De Anza College Center for Applied Competitive Technologies.

“Lean Concepts and Application” will be held 6:30-8 p.m., Thursday. Lean manufacturing methodology has helped companies worldwide to improve their operational performance as well as their bottom line. This seminar introduces the lean manufacturing tools that focus on removing waste, improving quality, increasing speed and reducing inventories.

“Experiential Learning: Enterprise Security” will be held 10 a.m. to noon, March 17. This program will provide an overview of new enterprise security courses offered at De Anza College, Foothill College and Carnegie Mellon University. The story-centered curriculum will simulate complex problems facing companies today.

The seminars will be held in Conference Rooms A and B of the Hinson Campus Center at De Anza College, 21250 Stevens Creek Blvd., Cupertino.
