The event, held in conjunction with the USF Reading the World Conference, is scheduled for March 12 at the Radisson Miyako Hotel, San Francisco. A no-host cocktail hour will begin at 6 p.m.; dinner will follow at 7 p.m.

Speakers will be Cornelia Funke, author of “The Thief Lord,” and Joe Cepeda, illustrator of “The Journey of Oliver K. Woodman.”

Tickets are $50 each and can be purchased in advance at Linden Tree Children’s Recordings & Books, 170 State St., Los Altos. For more information, call 949-3390.

In Our Opinion

Editorial

We’ve recently covered the passing of two of this community’s most involved and committed volunteers, Lee Lynch and Billy Russell. They represented an era when people helped out, not so they could get their name on a building, but because it was simply the right thing to do.

There’s a new generation of volunteers hard at work right now in this community who are carrying on their legacy. The level of involvement in the recent Los Altos Relay For Life event bears this out.
