University Transfer Day scheduled

Foothill College has scheduled its annual University Transfer Day, 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Thursday, in the Library Quad. Admission is free and the public is invited.

Admissions representatives from more than 50 colleges and universities, including private, out-of-state, international, California State and the University of California, will be available to answer questions and discuss transfer opportunities.

Parents and students will have an opportunity to meet with admissions representatives and get information about financial aid, degree requirements, housing and the institutions.

Astronaut to discuss asteroid deflection

Apollo astronaut Russell Schweickart, lunar module pilot and the first person to step outside a spacecraft without an umbilical cord, will present “Asteroid Deflection: Hopes & Fears,” an illustrated nontechnical talk, 7-9 p.m., Oct. 6, in the Smithwick Theatre at Foothill College. Admission is free.

Formerly the commissioner of California’s Department of Energy, Schweickart is the founder and president of the Association of Space Explorers, the professional organization of astronauts and cosmonauts. He is chairman of the B612 Foundation, dedicated to protecting the future of humanity by developing and demonstrating methods to deflect asteroids heading toward Earth.

Foothill Career Program Preview Night, Oct. 7

Foothill College Career Program Preview Night is scheduled 5-7:30 p.m., Oct. 7, in the Library Quad. Admission is free and the public is invited.

The event includes an information fair, career program presentations and on-site financial aid consultations. This is an opportunity to learn about the high-wage, high-demand career training programs offered at Foothill College.

Participants can meet the Foothill faculty and students who make its career programs industry stand-outs in a variety of fields, including A+ certification training, accounting, adaptive fitness technician, bioinforatics, biotechnology, Cisco Academy, dental assisting dental hygiene, emergency medial technician/paramedic and enterprise management.
