MacArthur Park Wine Festival Saturday
The 23rd annual MacArthur Park Wine Festival, benefiting the Palo Alto Area Red Cross, is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, at MacArthur Park Restaurant, 27 University Ave., Palo Alto.
The event will feature more than 50 of California’s finest vineyards and wineries. For the first time this year, online bidding is being held for the festival’s silent auction. For more information, logon to www.paarc.org.
Proceeds will benefit the programs and services of the Palo Alto Area American Red Cross including disaster preparedness and relief, CPR and first aid training, emergency communications for military families and Safe Ride for teens.
The Palo Alto Area Chapter serves the communities of Palo Alto, Los Altos, Los Altos Hills, Mountain View, Stanford and Moffett Field.
Admission to the Wine Festival is $55 in advance or $65 at the gate.

Utility users, Library tax exemption
Senior citizens living in the city of Los Altos may be eligible for an exemption from the library tax of $52 on their property tax bill and the utility users taxes on their gas, electricity, telephone, cable television and water bills.
To qualify, seniors must be 65 or older, reside in a household where the gross annual income of all residents does not exceed $33,100, and not be otherwise reimbursed for the utility charges upon which the tax is based.
The income level is adjusted annually.

Church members in Memory Walk
Members of the Los Altos United Methodist Church are planning their participation in the 2004 Memory Walk on Treasure Island, Oct. 9, sponsored by the Northern California Alzheimer’s Association.
Last year, the church attracted 74 registered walkers and raised more than $17,000.
This year, the church goal is $20,000.
Toward this end, church members are holding a second annual “Tea at the Parsonage,” Sept. 11, with proceeds going to support the Memory Walk team.

Teens can go ‘Underground’
The Underground, a city of Los Altos recreation center for teens, offers a variety of free activities for the summer.
The center offers free entrance, supervision, entertainment, gaming systems, barbecues, contests and prizes. The facility includes a basketball court, large park, computers, PS2, big screen television, music, arts and crafts, pool table, air hockey, ping pong, foosball, and food and drink for sale.
The Underground is open all summer from noon to 6 p.m., Tuesdays through Saturdays. It is open to teens who are going into grades 7-12.
The Underground is located at 400 University Ave., in the lower level of the Garden House, in Shoup Park, near downtown Los Altos.

Share your story at history museum
The Los Altos History Museum Exhibit Committee, in preparation for the new fall exhibit, “Votes for Women: Unfinished Business,” is seeking stories and photos from local women who have experiences to share such as working as a “Rosie the Riveter” during World War II; reading Betty Friedan’s “The Feminine Mystique” in the mid-1960s and finding it changed their lives in some way; or remembering when they or their mother first voted.

‘Treasure’ artist reception Aug. 20
Los Altos Hills artist Christen Vanchieri is exhibiting work at Treasure in downtown Los Altos through Aug. 29.
Vanchieri’s most recent series of collages reveal a wealth of images provoking interesting thoughts and speculations.

Azores group walking to fight breast cancer
“Four Sisters and Friends from the Azores” have scheduled a fund-raising dinner for Breast Cancer 3 Day, Aug. 21, at the S.F.V. Lodge, 361 Villa St., Mountain View.
The dinner will be at 6:30 p.m., followed with entertainment at 8 p.m.
The group of nine women from the Azores Islands, Portugal, will be walking for the Susan G. Komen Foundation for Breast Cancer 3 Day in San Francisco Oct. 15-17.
