A countdown of 2003's best stories

By Pete Borello, Town Crier Staff Writer

Choosing the top 10 local sports stories of the year is always a challenge in an area where so many teams and athletes are deserving of such recognition.

So, with apologies to those who were worthy but just missed the cut, here’s the Town Crier’s list for 2003:

The best golf team, “par” none.

A soccer stunner.

Raising the bar.

Vaulting to victory.

Reaching state not in their fate.

Make that 600 and counting.

No quit in these Eagles.

Turning red.

Streak (-ending) shooters.

Serving up greatness.

In Our Opinion

Editorial

We’ve recently covered the passing of two of this community’s most involved and committed volunteers, Lee Lynch and Billy Russell. They represented an era when people helped out, not so they could get their name on a building, but because it was simply the right thing to do.

There’s a new generation of volunteers hard at work right now in this community who are carrying on their legacy. The level of involvement in the recent Los Altos Relay For Life event bears this out.
