Although no Christmas tree was visible at the Silicon Valley Association of Realtors 2003 achievement awards and holiday breakfast last Friday, 58 realtors went home happy and smiling with their certificates of accomplishment in their hands.
SILVAR is unique in that it consists of five local districts. This allows members to work closely with the local community as well as being associated with the larger association.
Mert Bauer, tour policy committee chairman and district chairman-elect, asked the attending realtors and affiliates, “You didn’t come for breakfast, did you? You didn’t come for the music, did you? You came for the awards.”
To receive an achievement award, each realtor had to complete 13 transactions between Oct. 15, 2002, and Oct. 14, 2003.
“That’s a lot of houses that were sold in our area,” said Bob Morton, Coldwell Banker realtor. “It’s more than last year.”
At the 2002 ceremony, only 41 realtors met that goal. When a realtor achieves it five consecutive years, the realtor becomes a lifetime member; no lifetime awards were given this year.
SILVAR presents Diamond Awards to realtors who attain achievement awards 10 consecutive years. Helen Kuckens of Coldwell Banker received a Diamond Award this year for her consistency.
County agents have contributed to the continued home-buying splurge in the county with sales up 25 percent for the month of November. A total of 1,629 houses were sold in November according to DataQuick. That is more than any previous November on the books and a good omen for a successful 2004.
The year’s achievement awards were held at Chevy’s restaurant in Mountain View. The Main Street Singers of Los Altos High School provided a musical background.
Director Mark Shaull said the morning performance was their 34th of the year and the first four scheduled that day.
The morning program included the presentation of certificates to the outgoing 2003 Los Altos/Mountain View District Council and the seating of the 2004 District Council, which represented realtors from local offices.
