Three suspects accused in the highly publicized beating death of a Mountain View woman are scheduled to enter a plea Friday.

The three, Leonel J. Cantor, Jose G. Sosa and David A. Olayo of San Jose, also will be appointed defense attorneys during the hearing, set for 9 a.m. in Dept. 89 at Santa Clara County Superior Court’s Palo Alto courthouse. All three are charged with murder in the Oct. 25 incident involving Jardin Drive resident Doris Condon, 77.

According to police reports, the three drove to Condon’s home with the alleged intent to commit burglary. Allegedly, two of the suspects entered the home early that afternoon only to find Condon there. Reports cite Olayo, 20, had been to Condon’s house before, and Cantor, 25, allegedly committed the beating. Sosa allegedly drove.

The suspects were at the house no more than 10 minutes, according to police. Condon died from her injuries Nov. 28. The three were arrested separately between Dec. 3 and Dec. 7.

The case drew considerable attention due to the brutality of the crime and the generally low-crime area where it occurred.

“Mountain View police did an excellent job preparing and finalizing the reports,” said Dan Fehderau, a deputy district attorney assigned to the case. “We look forward to providing a strong case.”

Police officials expressed confidence in getting the right men, noting in a statement, “It would appear all persons involved in this crime have been taken into custody.” The three were arrested based on tips called in to police.

Although all three are charged with murder and burglary, Cantor and Olayo are charged with conspiracy to commit murder, elder abuse and robbery.

In Our Opinion

Editorial

We’ve recently covered the passing of two of this community’s most involved and committed volunteers, Lee Lynch and Billy Russell. They represented an era when people helped out, not so they could get their name on a building, but because it was simply the right thing to do.

There’s a new generation of volunteers hard at work right now in this community who are carrying on their legacy. The level of involvement in the recent Los Altos Relay For Life event bears this out.
