Carlson, Rivard

Christine Michelle Carlson and Jeffrey Leonard Rivard were married Sept. 6 at Portola Valley Presbyterian Church. A reception was held at Crowne Plaza Cabaña, Palo Alto.

The bride is the daughter of Sandy Carlson and Kim Briggs of Sacramento and Mark Carlson of Chico. She graduated from Mountain View High School and has received a bachelor’s degree in recreation administration from San Jose State University. She is employed as recreation coordinator for the city of Lancaster. She is pursuing her master’s degree at California State University at Northridge and plans to graduate in May 2004.

The groom is the son of Ray and Mary Mitchell of Sacramento. He is a graduate of Quartz Hill High School and has received an associate’s degree in arts and sciences from Antelope Valley College. He is employed as lead parks maintenance worker for the city of Lancaster.

Tschetter, Brauch

Jami Tschetter and Derek Brauch were married Sept. 6 at First Lutheran Church in Minot, N.D. The reception followed at the Minot Country Club.

The bride is the daughter of James and Kathy Tschetter of Minot. A graduate of California State University, she will begin her teaching career this year.

The groom is the son of Gary and Diane Brauch of Los Altos Hills. He is a 1991 graduate of Los Altos High School and earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of California at Santa Barbara. He is employed as a pilot with United Airlines.

The couple honeymooned in London and Paris and reside in Manhattan Beach.

The bride’s sister, Mari Tschetter, served as maid of honor. The best man was Brauch’s fraternity brother Dave Pattison.

Newton, Perez

Lisa Newton and David Perez were married June 28 at St. Joseph’s Church in Mountain View. A reception followed at Michael’s at Shoreline in Mountain View.

The bride is the daughter of Wilma and Stephan Newton of Los Altos. She is a 1998 graduate of Los Altos High school. and she graduated from San Jose State University with a degree in nursing. She is employed at El Camino Hospital.

The groom is the son of Sara and Ernesto Perez of Mountain View.

He is a 1997 graduate of Mountain View High School and graduated from San Jose State University with a business degree. He is currently a law student at Santa Clara University.

The couple spent seven weeks in Europe, visiting Spain, England, Scotland and Belgium on their honeymoon.

The couple live in Los Altos.

Editorial

We’ve recently covered the passing of two of this community’s most involved and committed volunteers, Lee Lynch and Billy Russell. They represented an era when people helped out, not so they could get their name on a building, but because it was simply the right thing to do.

There’s a new generation of volunteers hard at work right now in this community who are carrying on their legacy. The level of involvement in the recent Los Altos Relay For Life event bears this out.
