Montecito preschoolers Savannah Briggerman and Michael Byun are led down Grant Road last Tuesday during an evacuation drill. |
Children and teachers at Montecito School at 1468 Grant Road spent two weeks in October learning a simple but vital routine to use in case of emergency.
On the final morning of training, Oct. 21, Officer Ron Verna helped a class of two- and three-year-olds practice taking the handholds on the long rope that their teachers will use to guide them to Marymeade Park on Fremont Ave. - and to make sure they all get there.
The children will walk on the inside of the rope, away from the road.
Class-by-class drills, coordinated and led by the Los Altos Police Department, prepared everyone for a practice evacuation of the entire campus that will take place in November.
Parents will participate in that drill by meeting their children at the park, just as they will in a real emergency.
