Los Altos Hills City Council recently approved a plan to explore the cost and scope of renovating the fields at Bullis-Purissima School.

Last month, the town’s parks and recreation committee requested that council approve an allocation of $5,000 from the town fund to retain a landscape architect for a site development project, which would involve turning the unused land into two soccer fields.

Council unanimously voted in favor of the recommendation at its Oct. 2 regular town hall meeting.

The land is currently in lease negotiation between the town and the Los Altos School District.

For the project, Los Altos Hills town staff will seek an architect specializing in sports field development to assess the feasibility and cost of turning the fields into a playing area.

The town is also working with the school district to analyze the Bullis site’s drainage problem and its impact on the development project.

No development date has been set.

The Bullis site has been vacant since June, after the school district voted last February to close the public school.

The district is considering leasing the buildings on site to child-care providers, according to officials. The property, declared surplus, must be considered first for day care, followed by county special education uses.

The fields under consideration by the council for city use are located at the back of the property.

Editorial

We’ve recently covered the passing of two of this community’s most involved and committed volunteers, Lee Lynch and Billy Russell. They represented an era when people helped out, not so they could get their name on a building, but because it was simply the right thing to do.

There’s a new generation of volunteers hard at work right now in this community who are carrying on their legacy. The level of involvement in the recent Los Altos Relay For Life event bears this out.
