Vendors invited

for Westwind fund-raiser

Supporters of Westwind Community Barn in Los Altos Hills have scheduled a “Home for the Holidays” event Nov. 16, featuring handmade items for sale by area residents.

Organizer Collette Cranston envisions a “community-building” day featuring the barn decked out in Christmas lights, with games for children, as well as items from Los Altos Hills vendors that range from organic honey to fine jewelry. She sees the event as an opportunity for residents to meet neighbors, purchase early holiday gifts and support Westwind Barn.

Cranston said she has 10 vendors interested thus far and wants to find more. “We want to invite anyone who makes something interesting to call,” she said.

Proceeds from the event will go toward repairs and restoration of Westwind Barn. For more information, call Cranston at 948-6946.

Des Marais, a member of the Science Operations Working Group for the mission, will describe the plans for landing two advanced rovers on the surface of the red planet in January. Both rovers will have instruments on board that can act as “robot geologists,” searching for evidence of past water on our neighbor planet.

In Our Opinion

Editorial

When members of the Los Altos Village Association first created the summer movie nights, they anticipated an event that would attract more residents downtown as a way to promote business.

What they didn’t anticipate was an influx of middle schoolers, or that parents would use the weekly Friday night affair as an opportunity to drop off their children and have someone else (in this case, the Village Association) effectively watch over them.
