Thanks to efforts
on Adobe watershed
Thank you to all the council members of Los Altos and Los Altos Hills for their recent support of the Adobe Creek Watershed Group’s efforts to acquire grant funding for a community- based stream restoration and flood control project in Reach 5 of Adobe Creek.
Given the time pressure of the grant submission deadline, both councils scheduled special meetings to hear the group’s request for letters of support. Their interest in becoming informed and promoting this cause enabled the group to submit this first grant proposal on time. The excellent support letters produced were the first, and opened the door to support from several other significant organizations, including the Santa Clara Valley Audubon Society, Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District and Hidden Villa.
As creekside residents significantly affected by this project, my family and I are most grateful for the extra effort and concern demonstrated by each councilmember.
We are encouraged to think that this collaborative approach will produce a stronger community and positive results.

Center harboring
undocumented workers?
I would occasionally like to hire day workers and it makes sense to hire them from St. Joseph The Worker Center as opposed to hiring them off the street.
However, what assurance does St. Joseph provide that these workers are documented? If they are not documented, then St. Joseph The Worker Center and (Diane) Weissman (author of last week’s Other Voices piece about supporting the day workers at the center) are encouraging illegal immigration and the organization should be busted. Nothing in this article stated that the workers were documented.
I firmly believe that there are many people from other countries who are willing to legally come to America to perform manual tasks that others don’t want to do in the hope that they can improve their lot as so many others have. We don’t need illegals.
My wife’s German cousin obtained a master’s in business administration from New York’s Fordham University in 2000 and would love to have lived the rest of his life in the United States.
Unfortunately, he was forced to return to Germany as he had no right to immigrate unless he won the “green card” lottery. What a joke. This policy needs to be fixed.

Plea to keep
influential instructor
I am writing to you regarding Keith Gutierrez. My four children, ages 9-15, have all attended Redwood Grove Camp in the summers and during the school year to learn about the Ohlones. My children have always been motivated to learn more about the natural world around them because of his enthusiasm.
My son recently started learning the guitar. I wanted to sign him up for Keith’s guitar lesson’s since I knew Keith was an inspiring teacher.
To my dismay, the course was not being offered. As I looked for other of Keith’s courses I noticed that many were missing. This was extremely disappointing.
I am not interested in having my children attend archery or other classes being taught by strangers that I know Keith can teach much better.
Please retain Keith as a key asset of the Los Altos Recreation
Department and bring back the courses that he teaches so well.

Article on exercising
nuns appreciated
Thank you so very much for the great article in your paper (Town Crier, May 7). The nuns really enjoyed it and were happy with the way it turned out. They received so much attention from the students and parents of St. Simons and the other members of Lady Circui (where they work out). They were even stopped on the street by strangers who recognized them from the article.
