The increase from $11 to $24 per semester unit is not the only fee increase that will confront students at Foothill and De Anza colleges this fall. At their meeting May 5, the board of trustees approved additional fee increases.
One of the largest of these will be for parking services. The state allows a maximum of $100 a year for this service, and the board increased it to the maximum level.
Parking fees will reach the $100 level this fall as follows: a total of $80 split evenly among the regular quarters, and $20 for the summer session. The additional income will be used to maintain the roads throughout campus.
Student decal parking will increase to $26.65 for the fall, winter and spring quarters and $20 for the summer session. Motorcycles will be charged $15 each quarter, and citations for infractions will be increased to $30.
Parking permits are required 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., seven days a week. Flea market parking at De Anza will be increased from $3 to $5.
Parking fees at Foothill and De Anza have been at their current levels since the early 1990s, and costs have steadily risen over the years since the state implemented the $100 limit.
The board will periodically review the fee structure.
