Nearly one month after narrowing down a choice for a new town hall design, Los Altos Hills City Council is considering Los Altos-based architect Peter Duxbury to bring that design to life.
Duxbury was bumped to the top of the list of candidates when the new town hall committee voted unanimously May 13 to recommend him for council approval. Council will make its final choice at a public hearing May 29.
Last month, council considered results of the town-issued-survey and opted for a rural- style structure after the majority of residents voted in favor of it over proposed sustainable, Craftsman and mission designs. Though it was architect Barry Nathan who drafted the preferred rural style, council had other factors to consider before settling on an architect to revamp the Fremont Road building.
Each candidate was required to submit a fee structure and time line before April 30, detailing their projected budgets and estimated finishing dates. The architects went through a series of interviews before the committee made its final recommendation last week.
“Mr. Duxbury was chosen because not only is he well known around town, but we feel confident that he’ll be able to comply with our requirements,” said Councilman Mike O’Malley, a member of the new town hall committee.
“We have firsthand experience with him in this area,” added fellow committee member Councilman Breene Kerr.
Architects submitted projections which met the requirement of a structure measuring around 8,000 square feet which could be built under the approved budget of $3.5 million.
