An alert neighbor and a residential alarm disrupted a string of burglaries in south Los Altos Thursday morning.

Los Altos Police arrested three San Jose men in the Richardson Avenue neighborhood near the intersection of Grant and Fremont roads during a three-hour search of the area after a resident told police there were “suspicious” men in her neighbor’s yard at 8:04 a.m.. A fourth suspect escaped on foot.

Mountain View police and the Sunnyvale K-9 unit were called in for backup.

Ryan Patrick Keenan, 18, and two juveniles were arrested on burglary and conspiracy charges. Keenan was held in the Santa Clara County Jail and the two other teens were at juvenile hall Thursday.

Christopher Lee Caldwell, 18, turned himself in to the police Friday.

Los Altos Police Sgt. John Hughmanick said the teens allegedly entered a home on Bright Oak Avenue through a smashed window.

“An alarm on Bright Oak may have caused them to flee,” Hughmanick said. The teens left without taking anything from the home.

A neighbor saw the teens in the yard and called police.

The four suspects ran to the back side of the home toward Richardson.

Police confiscated the suspects’ truck containing goods possibly linked to other residential and car burglaries in Los Altos, Sunnyvale and San Jose, Hughmanick said.
