Members of the Silicon Valley Association of Realtors (SILVAR) meet at Michael’s at Shoreline each year for their holiday breakfast program and to present their annual achievement awards.

Last Friday, several hundred realtors from the Los Altos/Mountain View SILVAR district started their holiday season with the Los Altos High School Main Street Singers cheerfully serenading them with a half-hour of Christmas songs before the awards were presented.

Master of ceremonies Ginna Arnold-Lazar introduced the numerous VIPs and announced check presentations to Community Services Agency and the Los Altos Education Federation.

Sallie Morgan of Coldwell Banker-Seville presented three checks to Tom Myers, executive director of CSA.

“The first check is $8,415, raised at our holiday white elephant sale, another is $3,500 from the Coldwell Banker-Seville sponsorship, and there’s $338 from the SILVAR association,” Morgan said.

“We are grateful to Coldwell Banker-Seville for their continuous generous sponsorship,” said Myers. “This will go a long way to help our increased client load.”

Mickey Shaevitz presented $1,500 to Julie Gordon, director of the Los Altos Education Foundation, for elementary and high school students.

Among the 72 awards for 2002, Jim Nappo of Alain Pinel received the Diamond Award, given for 10 consecutive achievement awards.

Seven real estate agents received lifetime achievement awards: Chuck Atwell, Tori Atwell, Margaret Barton, Marcella Christoff, Barbara Cymrot, Mary Marley and Marc Roos. A lifetime achievement award is given to realtors with five years of achievement awards.

Achievement awards are given to realtors who have accomplished 13 transactions in a year. The period for consideration was Oct. 1, 2001 to Oct. 1, 2002.

Achievement awards were given to the 2002 committee chairpersons, and the new 2003 Los Altos/Mountain View District Council was announced.

Shaevitz announced tour meetings would resume again. The Los Altos/Mountain View district is the only district in the Bay Area that does not hold these meetings. Tour meetings will be once a month and include different speakers on industry topics.

In Our Opinion

Editorial

We’ve recently covered the passing of two of this community’s most involved and committed volunteers, Lee Lynch and Billy Russell. They represented an era when people helped out, not so they could get their name on a building, but because it was simply the right thing to do.

There’s a new generation of volunteers hard at work right now in this community who are carrying on their legacy. The level of involvement in the recent Los Altos Relay For Life event bears this out.
