“Toys and Pastimes,” the Los Altos History Museum’s new exhibit, will be on display Jan. 9 to May 4. The opening reception is scheduled 2-4 p.m., Jan. 12.
The exhibit will include historic toys and interactive tables with toys that can be handled.
The exhibit features the history and current use of dolls, teddy bears, building and architectural toys such as Tinker Toys and Lincoln Logs.
Display cases will showcase more historic artifacts such as model airplanes, crystal radio sets, windup and pull toys, antique character toys such as Mickey Mouse or Felix the Cat, and more recent toys such as Cabbage Patch dolls and Pong games.
As part of this exhibit, a March 6 lecture features toy collector Professor Dolph Gotelli, director of the Design Museum at the University of California at Davis.
He has organized toy and design displays at the American Craft Museum, New York, and Crocker Art Museum of Sacramento.
Two “Play Days” are scheduled 1-3 p.m. to complement this exhibit.
The first, Feb. 8, will highlight juggling and other fun activities such as jacks and marbles.
The second day, April 5, will feature yo-yos.
