San Francisco Giants baseball great Barry Bonds hit seven home runs at Los Altos High School Dec. 16 during the filming of a Japanese television show that pitted the former Los Altos Hills resident against comedian Takaaki Ishibashi in a mock baseball game.
Producers moved the show’s filming to the high school Monday morning after several other venues fell through.
Prinicpal George Perez said he rented out the field to give students an opportunity to experience the “once-in-a-lifetime-event.”
The left fielder was recently named 2002 National League Most Valuable Player. He became the fourth major league player to reach 600 career home runs in August. He set a major league single-season home run record in 2001 with 73 home runs.
“Tunnel Sons: I Am the King of Sports” is a Japanese comedy show in which Ishibashi plays sports against famous athletes.
In this episode, he challenged Bonds to a hitting game.
The pitching machine struck Bonds out in first inning, but he made a comeback and beat Ishibashi 15-3, including seven home runs.
