People of Note, the fund-raising arm of Music for Minors, has announced its concert schedule for the upcoming year. Formed in 1985 as a planning committee for Music for Minors’ 10th anniversary celebration, it evolved into a permanent 13-member volunteer committee to support the music enrichment program. Last spring the committee became a separate entity for bookkeeping purposes, but it retains its purpose.
“Our mission statement is to provide concerts and other events to the community,” said President Diane Tokheim. “Profits will support music education for children.” Tokheim serves as liaison between the performing artists and the concert venues.
The 2003 Family Concert Series will feature three artists performing two concerts each.
Charlotte Diamond with Paul Gitlitz is scheduled Feb. 2. Diamond, a Canadian Juno award winner, is well known locally for her sing-along concerts with young audiences. Her show is recommended for children 3 and older.
John McCutcheon, a five-time Grammy nominee, storyteller and musician, will perform March 2. His show is recommended for children 4 and older.
Tom Chapin with Michael Mark will appear April 6. Chapin is a 2002 Grammy award winner and family performer. His show is recommended for children 4 and older.
The performances are scheduled for 1:30 and 4 p.m. in the Smithwick Theatre at Foothill College in Los Altos Hills. Single concert tickets are $12; series tickets are $30; and discount tickets for groups of 8 or more are available at $11 each.
