Applications for the new Los Altos Hills Town Hall Committee are slowly trickling in and will be accepted until the time council is scheduled to appoint committee members at Thursday night’s meeting, according to City Manager Maureen Cassingham.

The council wants to make the application process as easy as possible for residents interested in applying for the 10-member volunteer committee, Cassingham said.

“Even at the time that (council) is considering the appointments to the committee, someone can hand an application to them,” she said.

Council voted Dec. 5 to create the committee, including seven residents and three council members, to decide on a process for determining the design, cost and time line for a new town hall.

Council members Breene Kerr, Dean Warshawsky and Mike O’Malley will serve on the committee. O’Malley said he will serve on the committee as a financial consultant and will not be involved in the selection of the building design.

Forms are available at town hall or may be downloaded off the Internet. Applicants may also request the application form faxed to them.

As of last week, town hall staff reported receiving 10 to 15 application forms from interested residents.

“The word is out,” Cassingham said. “Hopefully we’ll get as many interested people as we can interview.”

In Our Opinion

Editorial

We’ve recently covered the passing of two of this community’s most involved and committed volunteers, Lee Lynch and Billy Russell. They represented an era when people helped out, not so they could get their name on a building, but because it was simply the right thing to do.

There’s a new generation of volunteers hard at work right now in this community who are carrying on their legacy. The level of involvement in the recent Los Altos Relay For Life event bears this out.
