By was born June 3rd, 1938, in Berwyn, Illinois, the daughter of George and Louise Malstrom. She grew up in Elmhurst, Illinois, and graduated from high school there. She then went on to Beloit College in Beloit, Wisconsin, where she graduated in 1960. Following graduation, she worked for a time as a flight attendant for Pan American World Airways, and later began her 32-year career as an elementary school teacher. She taught at several different schools and grade levels in the Bay Area, finally retiring from the Los Altos School District in Los Altos, California. in 1994. In 1999, she and her husband, Doug, moved to Penn Valley, California where they designed and built their hilltop home overlooking a small lake and the mountains. She died there on September 14th, 2002, after a year long battle with cancer.

Ginnie was an especially talented tennis player with an impressive collection of trophies in both singles and doubles tournaments in the San Francisco Bay Area. She also enjoyed skiing every winter with her husband at various ski resorts throughout the U.S., Canada and Europe. Among her other interests were sewing, reading, home decorating, working out with exercise videos and working outside on the five and a half acres of her new home. Ginnie was blessed with stunning good looks, which, when combined with her natural athleticism and her active and health conscious lifestyle, enabled her to retain her youthful appearance and vibrant energy right up to the time that she was so tragically stricken.

Ginnie is survived by her husband of 35 years, her brother, Dr. Howard Malstrom of Tomball, Texas, her aunt, Bernice Wenberg of Batavia, Illinois, and her nephew, Jon Malstrom of Spring, Texas.

A memorial service will be held at her home in Penn Valley when the weather warms up in the spring.

SMITH, William “Mike”,

Mike was a Civil/Environmental Engineer with degrees from San Jose State University and Stanford University. He was former Public Works Director and City Engineer

for Half Moon Bay and was currently working for the City of Sunnyvale as Senior Engineer in the Public Works Department. He was an avid volunteer for the San Francisco Region of the Sports Car Club of America. He started flagging for the races in l988. He also enjoyed sailing and spending time at the cabin near Bear Valley.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, December 7, at 2PM at Christ Episcopal Church, 1040 Border Road, Los Altos. Reception to follow.

The family prefers memorial contributions in Mike’s name to The Trust for Hidden Villa, 26870 Moody Road, Los Altos Hills, California 94022 or Peninsula Open Space Trust 3000 Sand Hill Road, Menlo Park, California 94025.
