Carrie Peters and John Lorton were married April 20 at St. Simon Church, Los Altos. A reception followed at the Peninsula Golf and Country Club, Burlingame. The bride is the daughter of Bob and Carol Peters of Los Altos. She attended St. Francis High School and graduated from Chico State University. She is employed as a community director with the March of Dimes.

The groom is the son of William Lorton Sr. of San Jose and Lia Lorton of Saratoga. He attended Saratoga High School and graduated from the University of California, Berkeley. He received a master’s degree in business administration from San Jose State University. He is employed at a startup company in Silicon Valley.

Chackerian, Philander

Alissa Chackerian and Rodrigo Philander were married Sept. 1 at the Stanford Memorial Church. The reception was held at the Palo Alto Women’s Club.

The bride is the daughter of Chuck and Mildred Chackerian of Los Altos. She graduated from Los Altos High School and received a bachelor’s degree from Stanford University. She is working toward a doctorate in immunology at Harvard University.

The groom is the son of George and Hilda Philander of Princeton, N.J. He graduated from Princeton Day School and received a bachelor’s degree in science and mathematics from Stanford University. He is employed as an independent software developer.

The couple met while playing with the Stanford Symphony Orchestra. They live in Allston, Mass.

Nilson, Posch

Jenny Nilson and William Posch were married Aug. 10 in a garden ceremony in Cupertino. A reception followed the ceremony.

The bride is the daughter of Mona Nilson of Cupertino and Hans Nilson of Los Altos. She graduated from Los Altos High School and is pursuing a degree in nutrition at San Francisco State University.

The groom is the son of Michael and Carolyn Posch of Los Altos. He graduated from Los Altos High School and received a bachelor’s degree in history from San Francisco State University. He is employed at Wells Fargo Bank.

The couple live in San Francisco.

Hanson, Degner

Holly Ann Hanson and Erich Matthew Degner were married June 22. The wedding ceremony and reception were held outdoors at their home in Huson, Mont.

The bride is the daughter of Patricia Hanson of Missoula, Mont., and Harlan Hanson of Kalispell, Mont. She graduated from Troy High School, in Troy, Mont., and earned a bachelor’s degree in literature and creative writing from the University of Montana. She works at Treecycle in Missoula, and is also a writer.

The groom is the son of Raymond and Jacqueline Degner of Los Altos. He graduated from Mountain View High School and received a bachelor’s degree in planning, public policy and management and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Oregon. He manages Treecycle.

The couple live in the Missoula area.

Editorial

We’ve recently covered the passing of two of this community’s most involved and committed volunteers, Lee Lynch and Billy Russell. They represented an era when people helped out, not so they could get their name on a building, but because it was simply the right thing to do.

There’s a new generation of volunteers hard at work right now in this community who are carrying on their legacy. The level of involvement in the recent Los Altos Relay For Life event bears this out.
