Two major works by George Gershwin will be flanked by several of the composer’s most popular songs in a concert by the Nova Vista Symphony Orchestra at 2 p.m., Sunday, at Foothill College.
The concert begins the 37th season of the symphony and its second under the direction of Nuvi Mehta.
Nova Vista will perform “An American in Paris” and “Rhapsody in Blue” along with “I Got Rhythm,” “Someone to Watch Over Me,” “Fascinatin’ Rhythm” and “The Man I Love.”
In addition, the orchestra will play a medley titled “Salute to The Big Apple” including New York-themed favorites.
Lisa Spector will be the featured soloist for “Rhapsody in Blue.”
Spector has won prestigious national piano competitions. Dewar’s named her “Outstanding Young Artist of the Year” and she won first prize in the International Piano Recording Competition. Spector’s tours as a solo artist have included performances in China, Italy and France.
The concert will take place in Smithwick Theater at Foothill, 12345 El Monte Ave., Los Altos Hills.
Tickets, available at the door, are $15 general, $12 seniors and $8 students. Children under 12 are admitted free. There is a $2 charge for parking.
