By Dinner and concert benefit Poor Clare nuns
Julia Randazzo and Take Note and Djacks will headline a concert and dinner benefit for the Poor Clare nuns scheduled for 5:30 p.m., Saturday, at St. Joseph School, 1120 Miramonte Ave., in Mountain View. There will also be a donation-drawing for an acoustic guitar and an afghan made by the Poor Clare sisters.
Proceeds from the evening will assist in the rebuilding of the Poor Clare Monastery in Los Altos Hills. The monastery, built in 1920, was originally the home of the Gibson family. Today, it badly needs repair and retrofit construction.
The Poor Clare nuns lead lives dedicated to contemplative work and prayer.
Donations of $15 per person or $25 per family will be given directly to the monastery building fund.

LAH council candidates to speak at forum tonight
The Los Altos-Mountain View League of Women Voters is sponsoring a forum for candidates running for the Los Altos Hills City Council. The forum will be held 7-8:30 tonight, at Los Altos Hills Town Hall, 26379 Fremont Road.
The candidates are Steve Hubbell, Janet Vitu, Bill Kerns, Breene Kerr and Dean Warshawsky.
The league will also sponsor two meetings on the pros and cons of state propositions on the Nov. 5 ballot. The first will be held 7:30 p.m., Oct. 29, at the Los Altos main library, 13 S. San Antonio Road. The second will be held 7:30 p.m., Oct. 30, at the Mountain View Public Library, 585 Franklin St.
Native plant sale at Hidden Villa
The Santa Clara Valley Chapter of the California Native Plant Society has organized a sale of South Bay native plants. The event is scheduled 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, at Hidden Villa Ranch, CNPS Nursery, 26870 Moody Road, Los Altos Hills.
Hundreds of species of plants, seeds and bulbs suitable for California gardens will be available. Experts will be on hand to talk about lawn alternatives, such as native perennials, wildflowers and grasses. There will also be books and posters about native plants.

Westwind’s Halloween Horse Show Saturday
Westwind Barn in Los Altos Hills invites the community to its festive Halloween Horse Show 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday.
The show is a large and fun annual event which draws young riders from small barns throughout the mid-Peninsula region. Free to spectators, it features holiday games on horseback, a costume class, jumping competitions and a dog-and-pony relay race.
The show is a fund-raiser for Pacific Ridge Pony Club, a youth equestrian club for children ages 6 to 18 based at Westwind Barn. The historic Westwind Barn, owned by the town of Los Altos Hills, is located at 27210 Altamont Road.

Author talks ‘Rain Fall’

MV candidates squaring off
The Los Altos-Mountain View League of Women Voters will sponsor a second Candidates’ Forum for the Nov. 5 election on Oct. 24, covering candidates for the Mountain View-Whisman School Board of Trustees and the Mountain View City Council.
The forum is scheduled for 7-9:30 p.m. at the Mountain View City Hall, 500 Castro St.
School board candidates will speak from 7-7:45 p.m. The candidates competing for two seats on the board are Frances “Fran” Kruss, Ellen Wheeler, Theo Olson and Elaine E. Spence.
Candidates for the Mountain View City Council will speak from 8-9:30 p.m. There are three open seats for full four-year terms and one open two-year seat. Nick Galiotto and Bruce Kearney are candidates for the two-year seat. Candidates for the full term seats are Timothy P. Devitt, Tom Frankum, Chrstopher Lee Kuszmaul, Laura Brown, Robert H. Weaver, Patricia Figueroa, Rosiland Bivings, Greg Perry, Mike Kasperzak, Liz Boewer-Ambra and Matt Neely.
The League will sponsor a meeting looking at pros and cons of the state propositions on the November ballot. The meeting will be held, 7:30-9:15 p.m., Oct. 29, at the Los Altos Public Library, 13 S. San Antonio Road, Los Altos.
Tech and Society greets LEVX speaker
The Technology and Society Committee’s bi-weekly Luncheon Speaker Series will be held 11:45 a.m., Tuesday, at The Golden Wok Restaurant, 895 Villa St., Mountain View.
The speaker will be Karl “Jerry” Lamb, inventor and president of Port Angeles, Wash.-based Magna Force,Inc. , who will discuss the design and operation of the LEVX system, a next-generation fully passive, permanent magnet maglev system featuring automated platforms, magnetically levitated over a fixed guideway, as a viable solution to the world’s need for increased mobility.
