Prep Football Digest

St. Francis 28, Pacific Grove 0

St. Francis ran all over Pacific Grove and denied the Breakers any room to run last Friday in a non-league game.

The visiting Lancers piled up 278 yards on the ground and held host Pacific Grove to just 16 yards rushing on 21 attempts.

Will Taufoou powered the St. Francis offense by running for 100 yards on eight carries. The junior scored on scampers of 46 and 32 yards.

Quarterback Kyle Spraker had a hand in the Lancers’ other two touchdowns. He reached the end zone on an 18-yard scramble in the first quarter, then connected with tight end Matt Richards on a 35-yard pass in the fourth.

Defensively, Shane Minnis and Steven Aros recorded seven and six tackles, respectively.

St. Francis improved to 2-2; Pacific Grove fell to 1-3.

The Lancers open West Catholic Athletic League play Friday by hosting Valley Christian at 7:30 p.m.

Gunn 26, Wilcox 21

The Los Altos High football team went into last Friday’s game knowing what it had to do to beat Fremont.

“We need to stop 10 and 17,” said Eagles coach Ken Green, referring to quarterback Mike Silva and receiver Jason Enchill of Fremont.

Los Altos tried but failed - and the host Firebirds pulled out a dramatic 19-14 SCVAL El Camino Division victory.

Silva threw two of his three touchdown passes to Enchill, including the game winner as time expired.

Silva hit Enchill on a 38-yard pass on the game’s final play to snatch a victory away from the Eagles (0-1, 1-3).

Fifty seconds earlier, Los Altos went up 14-13 on Peter Hahn’s 8-yard run and Gary Bizer’s extra point.

The Eagles’ other touchdown came in the first quarter on Donnie Ecker’s 61-yard toss to Royce Hurd.

Fremont (1-0, 2-2) responded with touchdowns in the second and third quarters to take the lead.

Los Altos entertains Monta Vista at 1:30 p.m., Saturday.

Gunn improved to 4-0 on the season and 1-0 in the SCVAL De Anza Division on Friday with a close victory at winless Wilcox.

The Titans tallied all their points in the initial half, including three 2-yard touchdown runs by Marlo Jenkins.

Gunn’s other TD came on a 1-yard plunge by Keith Schuman, who finished with a team-high 41 yards on seven carries.

Quarterback Doug Campbell completed 5 of 8 passes for 97 yards. Phil Ghilarducci caught two of these throws for 46 yards.

Gunn plays a 3:15 p.m. home game against Saratoga on Friday.
