By Getting grants

The Bay Area Sports Hall of Fame recently made available its 2003 Youth Fund grant applications. Non-profit Sec. 501(c) (3) youth organizations and schools may apply for these grants, which provide needed sports equipment. Court appointment

A three-on-three basketball league based in Palo Alto seeks adult players of all ages and skill levels. Divisions are 20-35, 30-45 and 45 and over. Cost: $50 per player. The season runs eight weeks and features playoffs, trophies and MVP awards. Bring your own team or be placed on one. Play begins Sept. 29 at Cubberley Community Center. Special coaches sought

Special Olympics’ fall season is under way and the Silicon Valley chapter is in need of coaches for soccer, power lifting, volleyball, distance running/walking, cycling and bowling. Editorial

We’ve recently covered the passing of two of this community’s most involved and committed volunteers, Lee Lynch and Billy Russell. They represented an era when people helped out, not so they could get their name on a building, but because it was simply the right thing to do.

There’s a new generation of volunteers hard at work right now in this community who are carrying on their legacy. The level of involvement in the recent Los Altos Relay For Life event bears this out.
