Martin Yan of “Yan Can Cook” fame, host of more than 1,800 cooking shows, food and restaurant consultant, and certified Master Chef, will be cooking along with Chef Chu’s Lawrence Chu, a renowned local Master Chef in his own right, at the Los Altos Fall Festival.

Other local celebrity chefs participating in the Chefs Galley cooking demonstration tent are Dan Gordon of Gordon Biersch, Pamela Keith of Draeger’s Culinary Center, Jaime Carpenter of Jocco’s, Henri Delcros of Trader Vic’s, Chris Floyd of Left Bank, Rachelle Boucher of McPhail’s Private Chef/Savor the Moment, and Gary Roth of Los Altos Golf and Country Club.

The 11th Annual Fall Festival is scheduled to be held 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Oct. 5 and 6, in the South Plaza parking lot between First Street and Third Street in downtown Los Altos.

More than 160 artisans will display their paintings, sculptures, ceramics, jewelry, textiles and holiday items in this yearly fund-raiser produced by the Los Altos Chamber of Commerce.

The Classic Car Show will feature 100 vintage automobiles predating 1970 as well as an exhibition of pre-1976 cars that are for sale.

Local restaurants will offer favorites such as Chinese chicken salad from Chef Chu’s, tri-tip from Armadillo Willy’s and home-style Mexican dishes from Estrellita. There will be plenty more to choose from, including hamburgers, garlic fries, crab sandwiches, spicy shrimp skewers, Caesar salad, pretzels, pizza, crepes, chicken rice bowl, barbecue chicken, pork kebobs and, of course, Kettle Korn.

Children and their parents can participate in the festival’s annual Scarecrow Contest or walk down Children’s Alley, where a variety of youth-oriented activities will keep them entertained all day. Local schools benefit from the proceeds of the interactive games they provide in Children’s Alley.

Festival entertainment will feature Agnes Rock Band, Almost Blue, Blu-Crocodiles, Deborah Thacker, Los Altos Band and The Beer Hunters.

The event is sponsored by Kentucky Fried Chicken, Bank of America, State Farm Insurance, Jim Flynn and Al Ward Los Altos Agents, Wells Fargo Bank, Bank of Los Altos, Trendwest, American Express Tax & Business Services, Children’s Creative Learning Centers, Dacor, McPhails, Downey Savings and Loan Association, Morgan Stanley, Viplex Industries, Gordon Biersch, KKSF 103.7 FM, Los Altos Garbage Company and San Jose Mercury News.

Admission and parking are free. For more information, call the Los Altos Chamber of Commerce at 948-1455.

In Our Opinion

Editorial

We’ve recently covered the passing of two of this community’s most involved and committed volunteers, Lee Lynch and Billy Russell. They represented an era when people helped out, not so they could get their name on a building, but because it was simply the right thing to do.

There’s a new generation of volunteers hard at work right now in this community who are carrying on their legacy. The level of involvement in the recent Los Altos Relay For Life event bears this out.
