By CSMA schedules groundbreaking

The Community School of Music and Arts in Mountain View has scheduled a groundbreaking ceremony Saturday for its new $11 million campus scheduled to open in January 2004. The school still needs to raise an additional $4 million for the project. The new facility will be built on a 1.6-acre site at San Antonio Circle, Mountain View. Once complete, the center will have 17 music studios, ceramics studios, art and music classrooms, a 200-seat concert hall and a digital arts/electronic music room.

New cell phone legislation

Governor Gray Davis has signed legislation that allows the use of cell phones and pagers in schools. Current law prohibits a school from permitting the use of electronic signaling devices by students while on campus, attending school-sponsored activities, or under the supervision and control of school district employees.

SB 1253 repeals the current law and allows school district governing boards to regulate usage of cell phones or pagers.

In Our Opinion

Editorial

We’ve recently covered the passing of two of this community’s most involved and committed volunteers, Lee Lynch and Billy Russell. They represented an era when people helped out, not so they could get their name on a building, but because it was simply the right thing to do.

There’s a new generation of volunteers hard at work right now in this community who are carrying on their legacy. The level of involvement in the recent Los Altos Relay For Life event bears this out.
