By LAPD reserve officer receives state honor
Los Altos reserve police officer Barbara Gilmore was one of six officers statewide to receive a Meritorious Service Award from the California Reserve Police Officers Association last month at its 25th annual meeting in Sacramento.
There are between 10,000 and 15,000 reserve officers in California. Reserve officers are volunteers who receive the same training as regular officers and work alongside them.
The Los Altos Police Department nominated Gilmore for volunteering more than 700 hours each year at the department over the past three years.
Gilmore is a senior information specialist at Genentech in South San Francisco.
The Los Altos City Council honored her at the regular meeting last week.

Talk on identity theft Monday
Los Altos
The Los Altos Police Department is scheduled to hold a special town hall meeting on identity theft 6:30-8:30 p.m., Monday, at the Los Altos Youth Center, 1 N. San Antonio Road.
The meeting will include ways residents may protect themselves from identity theft and what they should do if they are victims of the crime.
Police say mail and identity theft are serious problems in Los Altos. Often a criminal uses stolen mail to take someone’s identity.
The two crimes are closely related and often result in the loss of tens of thousands of dollars for victims, police said.
Los Altos police receive at least one report of identity theft a day and about three mail theft cases a week, police said.
For more information about the town hall meeting, call Crime Prevention Officer Rod Sayre at 948-8223.
