Local school are planning to celebrate the one-year anniversary of Sept. 11 in a variety of ways. Here is what they have scheduled for today.
Almond School
A patriotic morning assembly, flag salute and a moment of silence is scheduled. Students and staff will wear red, white and blue.
Bullis-Purissima School
Students and staff will wear red, white and blue. A patriotic morning assembly is scheduled.
Loyola School
Students and staff will wear red, white and blue and focus on the heroes of 9/11 in individual classrooms.
Oak Avenue School
A flag salute, moment of silence and singing of patriotic songs is planned for the morning assembly.
Santa Rita School
Students and staff will wear red, white and blue, and hold a morning memorial assembly celebrating the strength of community and family.
Springer School
At a morning flag assembly, students will plant a redwood tree as a symbol of longevity and in memory of those that have fallen, with hope for the future.
Los Altos Christian School
Representatives from the Los Altos Police and Fire departments and the airlines will be honored at a morning assembly at the school’s flagpole.
St. Nicholas School
Students will give presentations about heroes and heroines throughout history, with the 7th- and 8th-grade classes focusing on the heroes of Sept. 11. Parents are invited to observe. School Mass will reflect on how to make the world a better place.
Montclaire School
Students and staff will wear red, white and blue. Classroom activities will focus on American traditions and symbols.
Blach Intermediate School
A moment of silence after the daily flag salute is scheduled. History teachers will have students do some reflective writing on the events a year later.
Egan Junior High School
There will be a ceremony during homeroom where student body officers will recite their pledge followed by a moment of silence and music.
Los Altos High School
Two trees will be planted to symbolize the Twin Towers. A dedication ceremony is scheduled at brunch.
Mountain View High School
A PBS documentary video about Sept. 11 is scheduled to play all day in the new theater. Flags will be on display around campus and a candlelight vigil has been scheduled for 7:30 p.m., tonight.
Alta Vista High School
A door decorating contest with a patriotic theme has been scheduled.
