“Lectric” Lime is the new fall color for the belts and hats of School Safety Patrollers.
Lectric Lime replaces orange, which dates back to the 1970s. The switch comes after the Federal Highway Administration authorized use of the fluorescent yellow-green color for warning signs in school zones.
“This job saves lives, so we need the patrollers to stand out,” said Merry Banks of the American Automobile Association. “Lectric Lime will allow motorists to see patrols better from farther away, when it gets darker and in bad weather.”
The Safety Patrol Program includes 500,000 students ages 10-12 who help their fellow students cross the street safely.
