By Bike ride to benefit fight against leukemia

The 8th annual Ben Eckenhoff Memorial Bike Ride will be held 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Sept. 14, to raise money to support the fight against chronic lymphocytic leukemia.

This is a fun ride, not a race. The $25 donation includes a commemorative T-shirt and lunch.

All proceeds go to the J. Benjamin Eckenhoff Endowment Fund for Research in hematology at Stanford University.

Children of Uganda CD available

Christ Episcopal Church has announced that CDs of the singing of the Children of Uganda, who performed at the church’s Palm Sunday service, are now available. They can be ordered from Stephanie Gainey at 363-9363, or through Web sites www.uccf.org and www.childrenofuganda.org.

Proceeds from the sale of the CDs benefit orphanages in Uganda where members of this group live.

Service of reflection and hope on 9/11

Los Altos United Methodist Church will offer a “Service of Reflection and Hope” 7:30 p.m., Sept. 11, in the church sanctuary.

Under the leadership of the Rev. Mark Bollwinkel, the program will feature the Chancel Choir, organist Larry Crummer and local faith leaders.

The community is invited to gather for this time of remembrance, messages and prayer.

The sanctuary will be open during the day for personal prayer.

The church is located at 655 Magdalena Ave. at the corner of Foothill Expressway.

Widows and widowers support group

The Mid-Peninsula Widows and Widowers Association meets 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays at the Los Altos Lutheran Church, 460 S. El Monte Ave., Los Altos.

The association helps people begin a new life following the death of a spouse.

All widows and widowers of the area are invited to attend.

Volunteers needed for Food Closet

The Food Closet needs volunteers to help sort and carry donations, organize merchandise and hand out food bags.

Volunteers may work 9 a.m. to noon or 1:30-4:30 p.m., Thursdays and Fridays.

The Food Closet serves low-income families and individuals in Mountain View and Los Altos.
