Get ready for the 14th annual “Rock Back the Clock” family street dance scheduled 6-10 p.m., Sept. 6, at Rancho Shopping Center, Foothill Expressway and Springer Road in Los Altos.
The event provides an inexpensive evening for the family. Kids can dance and hula-hoop their hearts out to 1950s hit songs.
Disc Jockey Rens Boorsma will set up his 10-foot music rack with Bose speakers and get the crowd in a dancing mood with songs such as “Tequila,” “Louie, Louie” and “Joy to the World.”
The Rancho Merchants Association hosts Rock Back the Clock. Proceeds benefit the Los Altos Festival of Lights parade held downtown every Thanksgiving weekend.
Kevin Sawyer, annual chairman of the event, coordinates the Rancho merchants who volunteer their time after the stores close.
“We want to liven up the event this year with a few new surprises and new games for the kids,” Sawyer said.
The annual event includes a hula-hoop contest for all ages. Putting the right spin on “Peppermint Twist” can win a prize from the merchants.
Admission is $5 per person and those under 18 will be admitted free if accompanied by an adult.
