Boosted by the efforts of five Los Altos residents, Airborne Gymnastics won the NAWGJ Judges Cup Meet Aug. 18 in Novato.

The club team tallied a score of 214.675 at the two-day meet, which drew top-notch competitors from throughout Northern California.

Each of the Los Altos girls - Christine La, Mimi La, Ellen Belinsky, Ana Jaworski and Christina Nilles - placed fourth or better in at least one event; the six highest scores in each event go into the team score.

Christine La captured the all-around title in the Level 6 ages 7-10 division with a score of 35.175. She won the uneven bars (9.25), tied for first on the floor exercise (8.725), took second on vault (8.675) and fifth on balance beam (8.525).

Mimi La finished seventh all-around in the same level and age division, tallying a score of 32.55. She tied her older sister for first on floor (8.725) and placed sixth on bars (7.9). The Las attend Collins School.

Belinsky, a seventh-grader at Blach Junior High, claimed the all-around championship of the Level 6 age 12 division with a total of 35.45. She won three events - the vault (9.30), beam (8.8) and floor (8.9) - and finished third on bars (8.45).

Jaworski won all-around honors in the Level 5 ages 7-9 division with a score of 35.275. The St. Nicholas School fourth-grader won both the vault (8.9) and beam (9.225), placed third on bars (8.7) and sixth on floor (8.45).

Also in that same level and age division, Nilles earned an all-around score of 31.675 to place 10th. The Loyola School fourth-grader’s best score came on floor (8.7).

The Los Altos girls, along with the rest of their Airborne Gymnastics teammates, are scheduled to participate in the Begonia Fest in Santa Cruz on Sept. 14-15.
